Stephanie Coates, LMSW
Therapist
Stephanie Coates is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Idaho. She has experience working with children and teenagers (ages 10+) and adults of all ages in both outpatient and residential settings.
Stephanie earned degrees in Social Work and Liberal Arts from Lewis-Clark State College and her Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky in 2025.
Stephanie provides counseling from a strengths-based, client-centered, and trauma-informed perspective. She works with individuals who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse, domestic violence, difficult or unsafe relationships, grief and loss, and other experiences that can affect a person’s sense of safety, identity, relationships, and connection with themselves.
Stephanie strives to provide meaningful support to parents and caregivers whose children have experienced sexual abuse or other significant trauma. When a child experiences trauma, parents can find themselves trying to understand how to help their child heal while also navigating their own fear, anger, grief, guilt, uncertainty, or helplessness. Knowing what to say, when to ask questions, when to give space, and how to respond to changes in a child’s emotions or behavior can feel overwhelming.
Stephanie works alongside parents and caregivers as they navigate this process, helping them better understand trauma responses, strengthen connection and communication with their child, and develop ways to provide safety and support throughout healing. She also recognizes that caregivers may need their own space to process what has happened and the impact it has had on them and their family.
Stephanie believes therapy should be individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. She integrates approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Lifespan Integration Therapy (LIT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed interventions based on each client’s needs, experiences, and goals.
At the heart of Stephanie’s approach is the belief that people are more than what has happened to them. Healing does not mean forgetting or erasing difficult experiences. It can mean developing a deeper understanding of yourself, rebuilding a sense of safety and connection, and finding ways to move forward while honoring what you have been through.
